In the basement beneath the City Hall, the archive holds the memory of the entire city.

Here you’ll find the documents that tell the official story.

But over the centuries, archivists have also preserved accounts of the lesser-known, hidden and suppressed sides of the city’s history.

On this tour, we’ll venture into the archive’s storage rooms, which are normally closed to the public.

Here, among other things, we’ll hear stories about some of the archive’s treasures, which have survived to this day only by chance.

We’ll also uncover an uncomfortable story about the City Archives during the German occupation of Denmark.
