Rasmus Kjær Trio + OMRUM
HOBBY HORSE PRESENTS: Rasmus Kjær Trio and OMRUM This evening, Rasmus Kjær Trio plays music by Rasmus Kjær, composed over the past decade and a half.
The programme includes pieces from the 2012 debut album Broken Bow, recorded with Kresten Osgood and Jonas Westergaard, as well as music from the latest release, Underlake from 2025, with Nicolas Masson and Noé Franklé.
The music is melodic, open and inquisitive. It draws on the history of jazz and the piano, while also pointing towards new horizons. The compositions provide a framework for lively interplay, in which written and improvised music continually influence one another, giving the three musicians room to explore the music together.
At the piano is Rasmus Kjær, pianist, organist, composer and improviser. He has released a number of albums under his own name, from Broken Bow and Orgelimprovisationer to Turist, EROBOTICA and Underlake. His music moves between jazz, improvised music, composition and experimental music. In 2020, Turist received the Best New LP Release award at Perfect Sound Forever's Vinyl Anachronist Awards in the USA, and in 2024 he received a commission from the Danish Arts Foundation for EROBOTICA 2050.
On bass is Richard Andersson, a Danish/Faroese/Icelandic bassist and composer who has been described as one of the most interesting figures on the Danish jazz scene. Andersson has released numerous albums as a bandleader and collaborated with musicians such as Jeff “Tain” Watts, Jerry Bergonzi, Tony Malaby, Bill McHenry, Rudi Mahall, Kresten Osgood and Kasper Tranberg. He has been nominated for Danish Music Awards Jazz several times, including for Composer of the Year in 2023.
On drums is Anders Vestergaard, a drummer, composer and improviser with a strong international profile. He has toured the world and is a member of groups including Yes Deer, Baujillaud, Blomsten and Laser Nun. Vestergaard has appeared on more than 40 releases and has collaborated with Evan Parker, Marcela Lucatelli and Taku Unami, among others. He has also released three solo albums and works as both a composer and a solo artist.
The trio thus brings together three musicians with strong, distinctive artistic identities and a shared interest in improvisation, composition and musical exploration.
The concert is part of Spil Dansk and is supported by Koda Kultur.

OMRUM is a collective project – a space for musical freedom where four strong voices meet as equals. The music moves between composition and free improvisation, with an open, ethereal atmosphere punctuated by explosive bursts of virtuosity.
The quartet consists of Erik Kimestad (trumpet), Mads Hyhne (trombone), Richard Andersson (double bass) and Jakob Høyer (drums) – four prominent musicians from the Scandinavian jazz scene. There is no front person in Omrum, no hierarchy – only the freedom to contribute and express oneself without fixed structures.
OMRUM released their debut album Bringer of Light on Hobby Horse Records, which was nominated for the German Jazz Prize for International Debut Release of the Year. At the end of April, the quartet travelled to Aarø to record in Mads Hyhne's summer house – and the music that emerged will be released in early 2027.
At the concert at Christiania Jazz Club, Omrum presents material from both the new and the old album – a snapshot of a band in motion.
OMRUM is an open space – for the musicians and for the listeners. All that is required is open ears and an open mind.
The concert takes place at Christiania Jazz Club on Sunday 1 November as part of Spil Dansk week and is supported by Koda Kultur.
