Bach’s last works and can be said to represent the old master’s musical testament.

Here, he demonstrates the possibilities of polyphonic compositional technique in a final, masterful manifestation of the Baroque’s rule-based, Christian worldview.

The work is also a response to the new music of the Enlightenment, Rococo and Classicism, with their more individualistic and subjective approach to music.
