Intro to Watercolours Workshop
Watercolours are so calming and mesmerising to paint with, and I can’t wait to introduce you to the spontaneity and magic of creating with this medium.
In this 2.5-hour workshop, I’ll guide you through the most useful tips, tricks and methods I wish I’d known when I first started out with watercolours. You’ll then put what you’ve learnt into practice by creating your own beautiful artwork. Your final piece can be anything you like – abstract, from your imagination or inspired by the seasonal botanical objects I’ll provide.
2.5 hours · Max. 6 people · All materials included · Taught in English
What you’ll learn:
Tips on set-up - Setting up well for watercolours is crucial to enjoying the process and getting the most out of your materials. I’ll share my tips for the ideal set-up for a beginner watercolour artist – which will save you a lot of time, money and confusion when buying your own materials in the future.
Water-to-paint ratio - One of the hardest things to master with watercolours is the water-to-paint ratio. I’ll introduce you to an incredibly useful exercise that will help you understand the water-to-paint ratio and save you from a lot of failed attempts and frustration in your future watercolour practice.
Brush control - Learn how to get the most out of your brush by practising different ways of holding it, strokes and mark-making.
Watercolour techniques - I’ll introduce you to essential watercolour techniques that bring texture, versatility and dimension to your artwork. By experimenting with the calming wet-on-wet technique and the precision of the wet-on-dry technique, you’ll learn how to make water your friend rather than an unpredictable foe.
A brief introduction to colour mixing and theory - We’ll dip our toes into the world of colour and learn how to create harmony by combining different tones on the colour wheel. You’ll also practise mixing gorgeous and unique colours with a limited palette.
Creating your own artwork - In the second half of the session, you’ll put all your experimentation and learning into practice by creating your own beautiful watercolour artwork on high-quality watercolour paper.
