Gå-hjem-møde: Er tidsånden konservativ?
Is the spirit of the times conservative? Is conservatism returning as a dominant political and cultural force?
In recent years, conservative ideas have attracted renewed attention – both in Denmark and internationally. Discussions about tradition, nation, community, family, authority and institutions are becoming more prominent in public debate, while new political movements are challenging the established dividing lines between liberal, conservative and national-conservative positions.
But what does it actually mean to be conservative? Is there a shared foundation of conservative ideas, or does the term encompass very different political and philosophical traditions? And is it even fair to say that the spirit of the times has become more conservative?
CEPOS will explore these questions on Wednesday 28 October, 16.00–18.00.
The event consists of two panel discussions.
In the first discussion, we turn our attention to the nature and intellectual history of conservatism. The panel will discuss the core ideas that characterise conservatism, what view of human nature and society underpins the tradition, and how conservatism has historically approached liberalism, progress, tradition and change, among other things.
Panellists:
Bent Meier Sørensen, professor and author
Nikolaj Bøgh, municipal councillor in Frederiksberg (K)
In the second part of the event, we turn to conservatism’s relevance today and the tensions shaping it. Which conservative currents are gaining ground? Where are the most significant dividing lines within conservatism? And how should we understand the renewed interest in conservative ideas in Denmark, Europe and the USA?
Signe Wolff Ravneberg, project consultant at Tænketanken Prospekt
And others.
Join us for an afternoon exploring conservatism as both an intellectual tradition and a contemporary political force – and asking the question: Is the spirit of the times conservative?
