SUMMARY:Gå-hjem-møde: Er tidsånden konservativ?
LOCATION:CEPOS\, Landgreven 3\, 1301 København
DESCRIPTION:Is the spirit of the times conservative?\n\nIs conservatism r
eturning as a dominant political and cultural force?\n\nIn recent years\,
conservative ideas have attracted renewed attention – both in Denmark
 and internationally. Discussions about tradition\, nation\, community\, f
amily\, authority and institutions are becoming more prominent in public
debate\, while new political movements are challenging the established di
viding lines between liberal\, conservative and national-conservative pos
itions.\n\nBut what does it actually mean to be conservative? Is there a
shared foundation of conservative ideas\, or does the term encompass very
different political and philosophical traditions? And is it even fair to
say that the spirit of the times has become more conservative?\n\nCEPOS
will explore these questions on Wednesday 28 October\, 16.00–18.00.\n\n
The event consists of two panel discussions.\n\nIn the first discussion\,
we turn our attention to the nature and intellectual history of conserva
tism. The panel will discuss the core ideas that characterise conservatis
m\, what view of human nature and society underpins the tradition\, and h
ow conservatism has historically approached liberalism\, progress\, tradi
tion and change\, among other things.\n\nPanellists:\n\nBent Meier Søren
sen\, professor and author\n\nNikolaj Bøgh\, municipal councillor in Fre
deriksberg (K)\n\nIn the second part of the event\, we turn to conservati
sm’s relevance today and the tensions shaping it. Which conservative cu
 rrents are gaining ground…
