What is cool climate wine?

Cool climate refers to wine regions at the very limits of where grapes can be grown for wine. Cool summers, long daylight hours and high natural acidity in the grapes. The result is wines with freshness, precision and an aromatic finesse that warmer regions rarely achieve.

These are also the regions developing fastest right now. The climate is shifting, and Europe’s wine map is shifting with it. Some of the most interesting wines in recent years come from places few people associate with wine. At Cool Climate Wine Festival, you can taste them side by side in a single afternoon.

Meet the producers behind the bottles

What sets this wine tasting in Copenhagen apart from most others is that there is a wine producer behind every table. Not an importer, not a salesperson. You can ask about everything from soil and harvest to why a vintage tastes the way it does, and get answers from the person who made the decisions in the vineyard and the cellar.

For many of the producers, the festival is also one of the few occasions when they present their wines in Denmark.

Øksnehallen is a few minutes’ walk from Copenhagen Central Station and is easy to reach by train, metro and bus. No prior knowledge of wine is required — come as you are.

Whether you drink wine every weekend or are still discovering what you like, there is something here for you. Come on your own, bring a friend or make it a Sunday outing for a few of you.
