Manfred Mann's career spans more than six decades.

Born in Johannesburg in 1940 but active on the British music scene since 1962, he became one of the era's most notable hitmakers in the 1960s with his first band, Manfred Mann, second only to The Beatles in the number of hits in their home country.

In 1971 he formed Manfred Mann's Earth Band, drawing on progressive rock, jazzy elements and a British tradition also heard in bands such as Cream and Traffic.

The band quickly established themselves as some of rock's most creative interpreters and over the years have created new classics from songs by artists including Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.

Their version of Springsteen's "Blinded by the Light" is now one of the band's most iconic moments.

With hits such as "Do Wah Diddy Diddy", "Sha La La" and "The Mighty Quinn", and a wealth of album releases over five decades, Manfred Mann's Earth Band have earned a reputation as one of the most influential progressive rock bands, and their ability to develop their sound continues.

In more recent years, the band have flirted with a more soul-rock-inspired direction, which has found its way to both new and devoted fans.
