Concerto Copenhagens Julekoncert 2026 - København

Welcome to Concerto Copenhagen’s Christmas concert, where the evocative music of the Baroque period conjures up the sounds of Christmas.

The music centres on two of the season’s most fundamental moods: the joyful anticipation of the coming of the infant Jesus, the saviour of the world, and the peace that we hope will descend upon us and the world. In the Baroque musical imagination, this peace is often depicted through pastorals: scenes in which the shepherds in the fields near Bethlehem are lulled by gentle, flowing rhythms, and the world stands still for a moment.

At the heart of this landscape is Bach’s idyllic aria Schafe können sicher weiden, in which the sheep can graze safely under the protective gaze of a good shepherd.

Johann Sebastian Bach is the clear guiding light of the concert, which also features beautiful and rarely heard works by Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann David Heinichen, Johann Christoph Pez, Johann Kuhnau and Christoph Graupner.

Let the peace of Christmas descend with Concerto Copenhagen, conducted by Lars Ulrik Mortensen and featuring soloist Joanne Lunn, the English soprano, in a concert where the hope of Advent, the light of Christmas and the year’s final reflections are woven together in the warm sounds of the Baroque.
