DESCRIPTION:The tech giants’ version of the future is not the only poss
 ible one. Yet the debate often focuses on how we can keep up with develop
 ments or protect ourselves from their consequences.\n\nBut what possibili
 ties do we overlook when we take the direction itself for granted? Profes
 sor of Anthropology Karen Waltorp explores how people shape their lives a
 round technology under different social and cultural conditions. Her rese
 arch challenges the idea that there is only one way forward. When we look
  at other people’s digital everyday lives\, it becomes clearer what we 
 take for granted ourselves – and what could be different. This also rai
 ses a bigger question: how can we influence our digital lives when a hand
 ful of companies set the framework? People finding creative ways to use t
 echnology does not necessarily change the balance of power. But their exp
 eriences can give us a basis for discussing possibilities beyond those of
 fered by the companies. Come and meet a researcher who\, drawing on field
  studies in South Africa\, among Copenhagen women with Middle Eastern roo
 ts\, and in an Afghan-Danish collective\, explores what anthropology can 
 make visible about our digital lives in a debate shaped by technological
