SUMMARY:Revived Futures: Why We Turn to the Past in Times of Crisis
LOCATION:Universitetsbiblioteket i Fiolstræde\, Fiolstræde 1\, 1171 Kø
 benhavn
DESCRIPTION:------- English below -------\n\n“Nostalgia is not a strate
gy.” With these words\, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney warned at t
he 2026 Munich Security Conference against relying on idealised versions
of the past to solve today’s challenges. The statement reflects a wides
pread belief that looking to the past is primarily emotional\, backward-l
ooking and of little use when we face the future. But is that really true
? With this panel discussion\, we invite interested guests to think diffe
rently about the role of the past in public life. References to history a
nd memory are not merely expressions of nostalgia. They can be powerful t
ools for understanding the present\, defining who “we” are and imagin
ing what lies ahead. Our four panellists are experts from different field
s who will share their experiences of how the past plays a role in Danish
\, German and European media\, politics and culture. At a time of rapid c
hange that constantly pushes us forward\, we want to explore why the past
plays such a significant role today and how it helps shape our ideas abo
ut the future – for better or worse.\n\nPanellists: - Asser Amdisen –
Danish historian and host of the DR podcast Kampen om historien.\n\n- Zo
é Elkær Nicot – Co-founder of the European Debate Initiative (EDI) an
d Chair of the Board of the NGO Nyt Europa.\n\n- Christian Schwarzenegger
  – Professor of Media and Communication at Universität Bremen\, where
he researches media change\, memory and right-wing communication using AI
 .\n\n- Marie Meier…
