SUMMARY:Et barn er født – julekoncert med Theatre of Voices
LOCATION:Trinitatis Kirke\, Landemærket 2\, 1150 København
DESCRIPTION:Our Christmas concert this year is a kind of musical triptych
  – a picture in three panels. Three different forms of music are presen
ted\, each three times: a carol or Christmas song\, organ music\, and par
t of Thomas Tallis’s Mass Puer Natus (A Boy Is Born). This Mass\, which
disappeared after Tallis’s time\, was unknown until three fragments we
re discovered around 1928. In the years leading up to 1970\, musicologist
s worked to gather enough material for all three movements to be performe
 d. The Mass is considered one of Tallis’s finest works. The organ music
comes from the 17th and 18th centuries in Holland and France\, and some
of it uses the Puer Natus motif from the Mass.\n\nAll this is set against
a backdrop of a score of European Christmas songs. Again\, they are divi
ded into three groups: the first is based on European Christmas songs fro
m several different centuries\; the middle group features more contempora
ry European music from Georgia\, England and Estonia\, and the programme
’s opening piece is built around a beautiful rendition of the bells of
 Speyer Cathedral.\n\nLudwig Senfl (c.1486-1543)\n\nThe Bells\n\nJean-Fran
