Amager, Bellevue and bathing in the city

Sandy beaches

There are a couple of public beaches not to far from Copenhagen city centre. It's easy to get there by the local S-train. But you should know that going swimming Danish and Scandinavian style means no chairs or parasols for rent (sun is too precious here). But on the other hand, the water is clean and the sand is white. And the shallow Øresund makes it perfect for allowing your kids go in the water. Water temperature is between 18 and 20 degree C during summer.

Amager Beach Park is the beach closest to Copenhagen (5 km). This almost 5 km long bathing beach faces Oresund and the coast of Sweden. The beach is divided in two parts – one on the mainland, and one on the 2 km long island. The lagoon in between is shallow, which makes it perfect for children.
Helgoland Baths
, which was here since 1913 are demolished now, but in the new facilities a nudist bath is still allowed. Separate departments for ladies and for gentlemen. Entrance fee.

Take metro to one of those stations: Øresund, Amager Strand or Femøren (travel time: 7 minutes), or bus #12.

Bellevue Beach, 10 km north of Copenhagen, near Bakken, is usually very crowded. But you'll love the white sand and the clear blue water. Nearby, there is also Charlottenlund Strandpark.

S-train to Klampenborg Station (or to Charlottenlund Station for the Strandpark); bus #14 to Charlottenlund.

Havnebad - bathing in the heart of Copenhagen

Waters in Copenhagen harbour are so clean that sometimes there is no need to travel to a beach – you can swim in the open air bathing facilities, just few minutes walk from the Town Square.

Follow H.C. Andersen's Boulevard south, turn right after the bridge Langebro.
Admission free; lifeguards, sun deck.

Another city bath is in Hellerup. This only 100 m long sand beach is perfect for a quick bath.
