Public transport in Copenhagen

Copenhagen metro is driverlessMetro

The high modern, fully automated (the metro is driverless) subway (called Metro) in Copenhagen is a very effective link between the large urban areas to the east and west of the city centre. The two lines run daily, around a clock. During the day, the interval is about 4 minutes, at night -15 to 20 min.

S-tog

The S-train service run by DSB is similar to the S-Bahn networks of Germany or Paris' RER system. It runs from early morning to late night; on Fridays and Saturdays all night.

An train run by Øresundtog, a Southern Sweden train service system, will take you to Malmö, Sweden, but you have to purchase a separate ticket (in Skånetrafiken's or DBS's vending machines, or at a ticket office).

Buses

Regular buses run during the day every 2-6 minute (there is no timetable, but you can see when they arrive on small electronic displays at the stops). S buses are express buses mostly for commuters that link areas where other public transport is not well provided, while N buses are the network of 10 lines that run during nights (1 -5 a.m.).
CityCirkel are small tourist buses that run a circular route in the centre, every 7 minutes. They stop on regular stops where the traffic is heavy; in other cases they can be hailed on the places marked with green dots on the curb.

Tickets & Prices

There is a uniform ticket for all public transportation in metropolitan Copenhagen. A Metro ride costs one clip on a klippekort - which is a multi-ride, ten rides (clips)-ticket valid for 2 zones. This ticket costs DKK 130, while a single ride with a single two-zone ticket will cost you DKK 21. Both types of ticket are valid for one hour. Tickets or stamped ten-trip cards for all zones are valid for 2 hours.
An extra night fee is applied between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Children up to 12 YOA accompanied by adults ride for free (max. 2 children per adult).
Ticket can be purchased from vending machines at stations, ticket offices and on buses from the driver. SMS-tickets/ticket on-line are also available for S-trains.

Alternatively you can purchase a Copenhagen Card, which is valid for any travel in the Greater Copenhagen Area, or a 7-days FlexCard (for bus, train and Metr; buy them from Movia ticket offices and manned stations).
